Jan Żądło


Polish baritone Jan Żądło has established himself as one of the most promising singers of his generation, combining a broad operatic repertoire with an active concert and recital career.

In recent seasons, he has appeared in a wide range of roles, including Winston in the German premiere of Lorin Maazel's 1984 at Theater Regensburg, Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro at the Warsaw Chamber Opera, Dancairo in Carmen at the Polish National Opera, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet at the Gut Immling Festival, Schaunard in La Bohème and Miecznik in Moniuszko's The Haunted Manor. He also covered the role of Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro for Glyndebourne on Tour.

In the 2026/27 season, he returns to the Teatr Wielki im. Stanisława Moniuszki in Poznań to reprise the role of Miecznik in Moniuszko's The Haunted Manor. In November 2026, he will make his role debut as Figaro in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia at the same theatre.

He made his operatic debut in the title role of Don Giovanni at the Silesian Opera in Bytom. Other important role debuts include Méphistophélès in La Damnation de Faust in Romania, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte at the Grand Theatre in Poznań and Donner in Das Rheingold with the Polish Radio Choir and Symphony Orchestra.

As a concert artist, Jan Żądło has performed with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR), the Polish Radio Choir and Symphony Orchestra, the Silesian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Świętokrzyska Philharmonic, the Zabrze Philharmonic and the Orchestra of the Polish National Opera.

He has collaborated with conductors including Fabrice Bollon, Gabriel Chmura, José Maria Florêncio, Philippe Forget, Sascha Goetzel, Michał Klauza, Alexander Liebreich and Tadeusz Kozłowski, as well as with stage directors James Bonas and Barbora Horáková Joly.

A passionate interpreter of song repertoire, he has given recitals at the Polish National Theatre, the Royal Castle in Warsaw, the Academy of Music in Katowice, the Karol Szymanowski Museum in Zakopane and Oper Frankfurt.

Jan Żądło studied in Katowice and was a member of both the Opera Academy of the Polish National Opera in Warsaw and Le Studio de l'Opéra de Lyon. He has received numerous awards, including prizes at the Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition, the International Otto Edelmann Singing Competition in Vienna and the International Giuseppe Di Stefano Opera Competition in Trapani. In 2024, he was a semi-finalist at the Tenor Viñas International Singing Contest.
