Biography
Born in Vienna, she has performed leading roles on many of the world's most prestigious opera stages, including La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Rome Opera, the Arena di Verona, the Vienna State Opera, the Paris Opera, and the Berlin State Opera.
She is an outstanding interpreter of Puccini's heroines, including:
Tosca, in Franco Zeffirelli's celebrated production at the Rome Opera; conducted by Zubin Mehta in Florence, Antonio Pappano at Covent Garden, Daniel Oren in Paris; and at the Arena di Verona, La Scala in Milan, Berlin, Vienna, Barcelona, Melbourne, Beijing, Monte Carlo, the Teatro Greco in Taormina, the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, and Bogotá (2023).
She enjoyed great success as Minnie in La fanciulla del West in São Paulo, Brazil (2023).
She has performed Manon Lescaut in Las Palmas (2022), at the Teatro Greco in Taormina (2024), at La Fenice in Venice, and in Berlin and Hamburg.
As Turandot, she has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera in New York; the Arena di Verona in the Zeffirelli production conducted by Daniel Oren; San Francisco Opera; Zurich Opera; with La Scala under Riccardo Chailly at the Puccini Festival and with the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia; at the Royal Opera House Muscat in Oman under Plácido Domingo in Zeffirelli's production; and in Bari, Genoa, Zurich, Bilbao, and at the St. Margarethen Opera Festival (Steinbruch, Austria) in 2021.
She has been widely acclaimed as Maddalena in Andrea Chénier in Zurich under Nello Santi, at the Vienna State Opera under Marco Armiliato, in Cagliari, and at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania.
She also excels in the Verdi repertoire, with performances including the Verdi Requiem in Monte Carlo; Lady Macbeth at the Vienna State Opera and in Barcelona; Leonora in Il trovatore in Hong Kong (2023); Abigaille in Nabucco at La Scala in Milan under Nello Santi, at the Chorégies d'Orange (Steinberg/Scarpitta), in Barcelona under Daniel Oren and Claudio Abbado, and at the Arena di Verona under Riccardo Frizza; as well as Elisabetta in Don Carlo at La Scala.
She has earned particular acclaim in the Wagner repertoire, performing Sieglinde in Die Walküre at the Metropolitan Opera under Fabio Luisi; at the Vienna State Opera under Sir Simon Rattle and Franz Welser-Möst; in Zurich and Paris under Philippe Jordan; and in Berlin, Amsterdam, Toulouse, Barcelona, and Tokyo.
She sang Brünnhilde in Die Walküre in Paris under Philippe Jordan (2020) and in Amsterdam, and Brünnhilde in Siegfried in Paris.
As Elsa in Lohengrin, she has appeared in Paris under Philippe Jordan, in Palermo (production by Hugo De Ana), Dresden, and Bologna. She performed Ortrud in Amsterdam (2023) and Strasbourg (2024), Elisabeth in Tannhäuserin Rome (production by Robert Carsen) and Amsterdam (production by Götz Friedrich Lehnhoff), and Isolde in Tristan und Isolde at the Vienna State Opera (2022), in Paris, Zurich, and at the Ravello Festival with the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro di San Carlo, Naples.
She has also received exceptional acclaim for her interpretation of the Marschallin in Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier.
