Matthias Helm studied voice with Rotraud Hansmann and specialized in song and oratorio interpretation with Robert Holl. He further refined his artistry through masterclasses with Margreet Honig, Wolfgang Holzmair and Rudolf Piernay.

Particularly acclaimed as an interpreter of the oratorios and passions of J.S. Bach, G.F. Handel, F. Mendelssohn and F. Martin, Matthias Helm is a frequent guest at renowned festivals and concert venues including the Leipzig Bach Festival, Halle Handel Festival, Boston Early Music Festival, styriarte, Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht, Theater an der Wien, Konzerthaus Wien, Musikverein Wien, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Wigmore Hall and the Berlin Philharmonie. He has collaborated with ensembles and orchestras such as the J.S. Bach Foundation St. Gallen, Bach Collegium Japan, Nederlandse Bachvereniging, Concentus Musicus Wien, Ensemble Barucco, Dunedin Consort, L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra, Wiener Akademie, RTVE Madrid and the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO Wien).

Numerous recital appearances, particularly his close collaboration with the Hasard Guitar Duo—including a recording of Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin (Gramola, 2015)—reflect his strong commitment to the art song repertoire. His stage work has also taken him to venues such as the Theater im Volksgarten Linz, the Vienna Chamber Opera, and the Klosterneuburg Summer Opera. Concert tours have brought him throughout Europe as well as to the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea and Singapore.
